"11 years ago I first came to Mind as a curious 18 year old who was about to embark on a journey that would transform my life for the better."

Each year South Somerset Mind provides support and a listening ear to over 1,000 individuals like Glenn. Our service beneficiaries’ range from children and young people as young as 8 years, providing the main care to a parent or carer with mental health distress ,to older people who may have experienced poor mental health throughout their lives. The one thing we know is that there is no typical profile of someone accessing our support and we have been providing services for over thirty years.  Anyone at any age, gender and background can find that they are mentally unwell and one person out of every four will. But we are here to support people through their journey towards positive mental wellbeing.

At South Somerset Mind we use a person centred approach which means that we are do not tell anyone what they must do. We believe in a person’s potential and ability to make the right choices for them so they can gain as much control and enjoyment in their lives as possible.  We provide one to one support, training courses to help people better manage their lives and activities in communities where we ease isolation and where people can meet new friends and share support.

We are a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee and governed by a Board of Trustees who willingly give up their time to make sure that we meet both our charitable and contractual objectives. The Board employs a small but committed and friendly staff team supported by enthusiastic volunteers and together we work with local communities and service users to lead local services that meet people’s needs and aspirations. If you would like to stay up to date with the charity, you can subscibe to our monthly newsletter by emailing our fundraising team.

South Somerset Mind is committed to working in partnership with others to not only ensure that our services continue and grow but those who provide mental health services or support others affected by mental ill health

We are affiliated to National Mind but we are a Charity in our own right. We are part of a happy and successful alliance of three local Minds the Somerset Mind Partnership that have agreed to work as partners, share their experience and skills, and build on their common philosophy and purpose for the benefit of mental health service users across the county.

Our charity is appreciative of the tremendous help from a wide variety of supporters. We give sincere thanks to them all.
