Find out how you can help South Somerset Mind
On Saturday 15th July Priddy Cricket Club, near Wookey Hole, played host to a Charity Cricket Match, raising funds for South Somerset Mind. ‘Sad Fat Dads with Pads’ Cricket Club made their way down from St. Albans to take part in the match as well as pay celebration to Spencer Russell, a close friend of the team members, who sadly took his own life last year.
Chris Curtis, a friend of Spencer’s and from the ‘Sad Fat Dads with Pads’ cricket club said:
Spencer was a key member of Priddy Cricket Club, so when his teammates Mike and Dan suggested a match in his memory we thought it would be a great way for friends and family to get together, share stories and have a good time. The event itself will go down as possibly the wettest cricket match ever played, and the standard of cricket on show was, shall we say, variable. However everyone had a fantastic time, with the memories of various happy times spent with Spencer being told and retold. The result of the match wasn’t important, but we were delighted to be able to raise over £1000 for Mind
Along with the funds raised on the day ARM Holdings, based in Cambridge, very kindly made a further donation of £500. South Somerset Mind are over the moon with the amount raised & hope that fundraising events like this one will continue to help raise awareness of mental health, particularly for men. Currently, an average of 13 men a day take their own lives, so it is more important than ever to ensure that men feel comfortable enough to seek the vital support they need before it is too late.
