Volunteering

Volunteers are an important and valued aspect of South Somerset Mind and are offered support, training and personal development in their work.

What will volunteering involve?

• Being able to give a commitment of a regular period of time each week, say 2 - 5 hours, this can be flexible.

• Assisting in the day to day running of the Drop-In Centre and the activities eg making drinks, playing games, chatting.

• Developing a professional relationship with a small number of Drop-In users.

• Supporting service users through other means eg taking people shopping, visiting in hospital and other mental health organisations.

• Attending training.

• Liasing with Drop-In Centre staff.

What qualities do I need to have?

• Empathy

• Being supportive

• Understanding and tolerance

• Some level of commitment

• Ability to accept some responsibility

• Respect for the rights of individuals

• Sense of humour

How will I benefit from being a volunteer?
